yeah i think it's wrong!! at "fish and feather" which is near me, they sell albino black widows with like fluro green and pink in them! Not only does it look **** but it's soo cruel!
I think people buy those kind of fish because they just don't know that the fish are dyed or tatooed. That seller doesn't mention his fish are dyed or tatooed, so how is a buyer just out looking for a pretty fish suppose to know they are? I mean, it is weird if you think about it, some person holding on to the fish trying to tatoo it. I don't think it crosses the average person's mind that things like that are even done. Hobbiests need to get the word out about these "painted" fish, educate the public so to speak.
Kind of an unrelated side note: My sister came over to visit during the holidays. She asked if my neons and discus were dyed. She has this idea that fish just can't look like that naturally! Also, I've had like three people ask if my discus tank was saltwater, because freshwater fish aren't that "cool."
absolutely people (sellers if decided to sell tattooed or died fish) SHOULD most defenately tell the customer that they are tattooed or died.
i don't agree with this. it's so cruel to the animal and in 99.9% of cases, the work looks like crap.
at my LFS, where i work, i told my boss i REFUSE to sell died, injected, or tattooed fish and he agreed with me, so we don't sell them.
oh, and another thought.
it's just another way for pet stores and sellers to rip off the customer by making them pay extra for a fake fish, and then over time it end up fading and the whole purchase being a waste.
