That a great way, I've tried it in the past except we have a waterflow reducer on our line as the taps kept blowning up internally. I now use a high pressure hose and pump to clean them, easier and doesn't miss shape them either.

when i fill up a bucket for water changes, i simply take the filter pad, dunk it over and over in the water to shake off any debris, and it does a pretty damn good job with my filters. haven't had to replace a filter pad since i bought the filter yet. (about a year now)
