Our society today is getting absolutely ridiculous, take a look at this article:

"People are getting bigger and bigger,'' said McNeil. "All hospitals are struggling with it.''

McNeil pointed out that the hospital can rent over-sized equipment when it's called for, but noted that patients who are very obese are sometimes sent to nearby veterinary colleges.

"The MRI and X-ray machines there are designed for horses,'' he said. "How would you feel?''

Now don't get me wrong, I have no qualms with people that are obese from legitimate medical issues (ie - hypothyroidism) but people that are getting fat from having a poor diet and lack of exercise, I have a huge problem with. I say that if people make the decision to live a lifestyle that leads to obesity, that's they're own damn problem. The rest of the country, meaning taxpayers, and those having increased costs for medical insurance due to the need to accomodate fatties shouldn't have to pay for it.

There should be a law that says:

"If you weigh over 300lbs, or have a BMI over 30 and don't have a legitimate medical problem that caused the weight issue, you are limited by the following rules:
  1. You are not allowed medical care.
  2. You are not allowed medical insurance.
  3. You are not allowed to be on welfare.
  4. You are not allowed to have any form of government assistance.

You make that law, and people will sure as hell start changing their attitude towards weight loss. You either maintain a reasonable weight, or you die.

I agree.

Unfortunatly the fear of death dosn't seem to work, as just being obese will do that.

But atleast if that was the case, we wouldn't have to pay for all their health problems.

Oh well, every generation has it's illness. I think we'll be laughed at in 50 years because of our fat people epidemic.

It's just getting more rediculus, airplanes have to take on more fuel to make up for the extra weight of the average american. Maybe instead of charging everyone extra for the fuel, they should not only pay for two seats, but a weight premium aswell.

FACT in the UK if 5% more people used a bike 5 times a week it would save 50 million pounds every year in the hospitals due to the massive decrease in heart problems and fat people.

whoa, I wonder how much larger that number is in the U.S.

Thanks fat people, maybe my college tuition wouldn't be so high if you decided to walk up and down a flight of stairs every once in a while.

i agree with you to some point, but im not as fit as i would like to be, but im also 6'4"

i think that me being slightly overweight should not cost me more, its not like i weigh 300 pounds, but not too far... its when people are 5'4" and weigh 350 pounds, or when i see people at the grocery store, walking over to the powered carts because they dont wanna walk to get more food, i say when your too fat to walk to buy more food, then its a problem

but weight is irrelevant, muscle weighs more than fat anyways

as soon as gas gets high enough so that most people cant afford it, youll see more fat people on bikes
