this is my poop suckin filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can see where it would help pick up poo, but am I missing something? Just attached to a powerhead it isnt really filtering...

I would think that the filter media would get dirty quick. You could add a larger diameter or longer tube so it could hold more media. How long have you been running it? Wouldn't the poo go everywhere if the suction from the powerhead stops.

Oh it filters a ton but like I said my video with the k1 filter media wont load and with the air line going to it really helps make it into a wet dry filter worked wonders for my tank flowerhorns are really messy eaters and since I don't use any substrate I needed to do something about the poop and the bio load in the tank.

No the I clean it once a week and the poop really gets stuck to the filter the k1 is on the outlet side but it really works great ive been using it for 3 maybe 4 weeks now and love it!

I can see why this would be effective. We just have a big sponge block on the bottom of our power head and it gets CAKED with crap by the time water change comes. Yours looks like it would be great I have spare siphons I'm going to try this

Planning to do the same thing with my spare powerheads except I'll be using those 16oz water bottles

I've been thinking of doing the same thing after seeing a thread about using pop bottles for it.

I already have a sponge filter on it but I'd like some bio-pellets involved. I was thinking a piece of PVC pipe of appropriate width, cover it in silicone and roll it in some tank safe fossils (I have a bunch of little ones from a nearby site) and basically build a mini filter inside of it w/ sponge and bio-pellet. The added length for sure helps suck up poop on the bottom, but drilling some holes near the top might help get anything kicked up too high

Nice to hear that it works well for you! Good idea
