So about six months ago I bought two dozen feeder guppies for my needlefish. I fed all but 4 and my wife insisted on saving them so we threw them in a 10 gallon tank. I've never kept them long enough to breed but today I counted over 40 of the little guys :nilly: Now here is the odd part. All of the feeder guppies were very plain looking and silver. I see at least 10 of them in the tank that have very big fancy fins and bright colors. Some of them even have dark reds and blues and spots on them. How does this happen?

Guppys can store loads of sperm. The fancy fin part is because recessive genes, etc. come into play...

Awesome! She just threw some really fancy guppies in with them last week so I'm curious to see what happens

post some pics bro

I've tried so hard to get good pics of them but they are so fast and don't come close to the glass when they see he camera. :( I'll see what I can do later.

a female can have up to 5 litters from one mating. some where along the line she was mated with a fancy or her parents or grandparents where fancys.

I don't know maybe the fancy bred with feeders a while ago and the still have sperm form them. You'll probably get middle-class guppies.
