Okay so I decided to cut back on my collection because it was getting a little out of hand and expensive to feed so I have decided to adopt out my monitors. I ran into some guys at the reptile shop that were interested in taking them and a another friend of mine vouched for these guys saying that they took good care of their stuff. I figured that since sav's and water monitors are pretty much dime a dozen I would just give them away as long as they were going to good homes. These guys claimed that they had a cage and could properly feed and keep both monitors. Well I gave them up yesterday confident that they were going to good homes.

Now, I am sitting here THE NEXT DAY looking on craigslist and I see that my water monitor is now for sale (and they have him priced at a retail price too). The add says that they "no longer have his cage". Who would get rid of a cage before getting rid of the animal? There is no doubt that this is my monitor and that they did not have a cage to begin with and now they do not know how to care for it.

I am thinking of contacting them and asking for it back politely. If they don't, I can bring a lot of crap down on them including legal action from FWC since it is illegal to sell reptiles without a permit for it in FL. I feel ready to take someones head off.
 
Well thats lame i would so do that since i would be just as pissed as you are Good luck!
 
go round their and if they refuse which im shore they will smash all the legal stuff at them then take your moniters :headbang2
 
That's terrible. Do everything in your power to get them back, otherwise who knows in what conditions they'll end up?
 
I agree, politely ask for them back...

If that doesn't work point out the legal concerns that could be brought up...

Also be sure to take the lesson. When possible deliver them to the new home so you can see where they are going. And ask the potential owner a lot of questions to 'test' their knowledge....
 
Damn, that absolutely sucks to hear... i know if it were me i would be completely going off at them (short temper)... but hopefully you'll be able to get them back and if need be given/sold to some one who actually wants to take care of them and not make a buck off a free reptile...
 
^ Glad to hear it! I was on Craigslist today and saw your ad warning about that guy. That's any pet owner's worst nightmare, to think you're giving an animal to a good home then see it immediately sold for $$$$. I'm glad everything turned out ok.
