Hi

I have just bought a new house, (it will be finished march next year)
and as a monster fish keeper, I of course ordered a reinforced floor!:D

So, now that the house is ordered, I am looking for my tank..
Over here all big tanks are made of acrylic, which is what I want, but the thickness is quite a bit thinner in what you guys have in the states.

For example:

2400x900x60 (8x3x2) is made of 15mm (0.6")
1800x900x60 (6x3x2) is made of 13mm (0.5") or 15mm (0.6")

When i spoke with the shop, they said that it was no problem and i shouldn't be worried, and I ain't , but my wife is..:grinno:

The tanks have euro bracing with two additional braces on top

So, what do you think?
Can i go with this thickness or do i need to go up in thickness?
(possible but with a big price jump)

Any input much appreciated!

Thicker is always better! Does your new house come with floor drains? :D

If your tanks are 24 inches tall then 15mm (.6") is ok, but they will bow some. I have a 400 that 120x32x24 and its made from .75" it really doesn't bow at all although the top of my tank is one piece with 3 holes cut in the top.

Me rich?....

Nope not anymore, not that i ever was rich in the first place.

Actually, houses over here are not as expensive as i thought...sure if you want to live in downtown Tokyo, your gonna bleed!

I'll admit that my house is not huge, only around 100m2, but it is big enough for 3 people..and my fish!

I say thicker also. I would like the extra piece of mind. And also you won't have to listen to the wife if it does break. lol No I told you so if you get thicker. lol

My wife thinks that thicker is better too. :naughty:

Seriously though, thicker IS better. Pay the extra money so you can sleep soundly at night.

when only a thin piece of plastic is holding back hundreds of gallons of water from ruining your hard earned house, property, marriage, and your wife castrating you for it.....i say spend the extra $$ and go thicker acrylic.

this way every sound you hear around the tank wont have you saying "uh-oh, this better not be the one. i should have gone thicker"
