i bought a small senegalus for my bro. it looked healthy when it got home thing is i noticed he had a hole in his neck. i mean fairly big size too. piece of muscle or somethign was hangin out of it. very unfortunately it died. anyone kno what this could be. the hole was on the underside with mayb half of it in between each gil.

the polypterus is about 3 in long. the hole is mabe half as big as the fish is across if that makes any sense. the muscle thign was brown mayb a dark red and hangin down below it when it swam. it looked like it was havin a hard time breathing( it was takin really deep breaths) i have nothin in the tank that could have made a whole like that so i kno it isnt the fish it was with. i cant get a pick until i find the usb cable for the camera ill see if i can find a way thru my laptop ill post pics later
sounds like a parasite to me, prob picked it up from the LFS. You should quarantine the water in your tank with meds or a little salt to be sure it didn't spread
quarantining isnt trouble or a task that you should not want to do, its your safest bet at having a healthy fish and not contaminating any other fish you have in your community tank. If you want, i have a senegal that i have had at size 4" and now its around 10-11 inches, not a picky eatter and could be entertaining if you put in a small goldfish. I'm thinking of making some room in my tank.
