Ok, here's a pic of my managuensis, s/he's pushing 4 inches, but i think i can finally tell the sex, i just wanna make sure everyone else thinks its male too. I wanna get rid of the others asap, so I can just have one male managuensis.
Yea they look totally different.. The barring on the female is different, and mine is getting spots on its gill plate, where the females I've seen always have the thick black bars running from their eyes to the end of the gill plate.
Lol unfortunately, i think I'm too amateur to vent accurately with any fish, I know where to look, but not what it's supposed to look like. And as for the spots, they're usually black, this was just the first time I had a camera out around them so they all kinda hid from the flash and lost all their color. Additional info. Out of 4, (had 5 but one got too aggressive so I took it back) two of them have stayed very small, still under 2", and the other two (one including this one) have grown two inches within the last few weeks.
I know makes grow faster, but I don't know if that applies when they're younger or older. I just kinda figured the biggest always got the most of the food so they grew. The two larger ones patterns are almost identical.
Here are some updated pics, I can clearly see where the horizontal bars are beginning to break up. I just want to make 100% sure that it is a male. As far as I know, males have: indented stomachs, spots, a broken horizontal bar (when younger), one website said males tend to have more of a hooked mouth, but I've never noticed a difference. Unfortunately I cant tell the difference between male and female if I try to vent the fish. I'm just looking for opinions. I wanna be able to get this guy alone as soon as I can So I can have a better bond with him.
