Maybe it's just wishfull thinking but, I had this in mind. My wife brought me home a 12'' channel catfish as a surprise. It was free off of craig's list. The only tank I have is a 300 gallon with a single 4'' peruvian juvy rhom(I'm trying to grow monster). Because there were no returns as stated by the owner and no LFS were willing to take it, I had no other choice ,but to set up a divider in the center of the tank and put him in on one side. Both fish are doing great and to my surprise neither of the fish seem to pay any attention to one another through the divider. :) knowing that the channel cat will outgrow his half of the tank I was wondering if it is out of the question to let the two fish cohab in the 300.?;) I only ask this considering the huge size difference and large space the fish share.
what do you guys think??

Its been a couple weeks that Ive had him Ive tried feeding him large goldfish and he can't swallow goldfish that are smaller than the rhom. soo maybe?

i think the channel cat is gonna make a snack out of your rhom if you take that divider down...

Go to the lessons learned forum and read the post "Don't put piranhas in with anything DUH!" and that is just my experience with the same situation! lol....It is a little sad I may warn you. I wouldn't risk it

Let's just assume that he can't get the rhom down. S. rhombeus is an obligatory fin and scale eater. I don't think channel cats have scales, but they do have fins and whiskers. If the cat can't swallow the rhom, the rhom is gonna nip the cat ragged. If you don't mind a half chewed channel cat as the best case scenario then go for it, but I personally wouldn't do it. Rhoms are expensive, and channel cats are gnarley. They both deserve better. Just my .02 cents.

Photos please. If you do take down the divider, I hope your rhom is tough and that catfish is not.
