The manatee calf was confiscated by peruvian officials from poachers trying to sell it as a food item. The poachers had already killed the calf's mother and sold off the meat. A site sponsor wrangled through the red tape to obtain permission to care for the infant manatee. Members of AP (and later many other fish/pet sites) have donated money and veterinary expertise for the setup of a licensed rescue facility and food/medicine/proper living quarters for the calf's care. The facility is Peru's first.

i didn't see the ad yet, but if readers don't know the story, then I'd think it's a weird ad as well.
i just looked at it again an it says something about the conservation act which is awesome..but think its weird..
