Tell me if this is just me being jaded by the world these days, or if this seems sketchy to you as well. I'll selling something on CL (not aquarium related, it's a fly rod) and a guy messaged me this morning asking if I'd ship to Orange county California. I said yeah no problem, with my business I ship all over the world. Then he says he'll buy it and is a money order/cashiers check okay?

I told him I only deal with paypal, it's just much safer that way. The whole thing just set off a couple red flags for me. One, why is someone in Cali looking at a Michigan CL section, and two, who in this day and age does not use Paypal? Is it just me or does this sound sketchy to you too?

Any time someone wants to use a money order sounds sketchy to me. But I've only used paypal for payments to maybe 2 companies? No one else uses it. Certainly never used it for private transactions, that's all bank transfers.

Very sketchy. Money orders are the most scammed payments I can think of. I investigate paper money like a dang bank teller. I had a guy give me fake quarters before

I don't use paypal as I got scammed off ebay and they sided with the scammer. if someone wont take a cashiers check from my bank then I think there's a scam on their end as I run the risk of sending the money. the part of looking at the cl is a bit strange.

I've used money orders to send payment for years before I got with the modern paypal program.Don't know much about the cashier's checks but I'd imagine you won't send anything out until either of those clears in your account so it would seem that there is no risk to you.
I can't speak on why the customer wants to do business via snail mail in this day and time.....some people are stuck in their old ways,I guess.

The thing that worries me about some of them like cashiers check is that there has actually been some cases in the past where people on CL have asked to pay in cashiers checks and then they send a made up/phony one. From what I have read it will look real and the bank will take it, but then a few days later the bank finds out its fake and then the person that took is is out the cash. Here's one of the articles I just read on that https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/banking/banking-basics/how-to-avoid-cashiers-check-fraud/

I told the guy I would only use paypal. if he really wants it then he'll use PP. Haven't heard back from him now so that kind'a tells me I made the right choice. I hate to be un trusting of people but you pretty much have to it seems these days.

I don’t use PayPal either. I contacted a guy thru eBay and purchased a bamboo rod outside of eBay. Transaction was flawless but honestly looking back probably not the wisest decision on my part.
