I was doing some research on the different thorichthys and came across some pics on the web. Does anyone own any aureus that look this good? Or are these ones special?

I already asked this question like two weeks ago and those pics look like they came from jjphoto.dk

They are just quality T.aureus, probably the 'blue flash' variant.

Not all will look like that, nice fish either way.

Rusty Wessel is king of Thorichthys! I have some from offspring from his wild caught fish, best quality fish possible.

Didnt know about the Auction till you just said so, haha. Ive never been to an auction, sounds like it would be fun.

Who exactly is Rusty Wessel?

Photos are right from jjphoto.dk site, I just pasted the image links.

David,
I have a read a few posts that you have posted in, you seem to have quite some experience in the Thorichthys area. Which Thorichthys is the least aggressive but still have alot of color?

I was thinking of putting a couple with my Blue Dempseys.

Just do a google search and you'll find out all about Rusty Wessel. ;) He lives in Louisville and the species Theraps wesseli was named for him...because he was the one who discovered it in '95 I believe. He also supplies Jeff Rapps with the majority of Thorichthys and other species that Jeff sells. I'm pretty sure that all of the fish that Rusty keeps <every species of Thorichtys, several Herichthys, some Viejas, Nandopsis etc> are wild caught and he caught them himself.

As others have said, those are top quality adult specimens. The problem with Thorichthys is they take a long time to reach full color...approx 2-3 years with the exception of T. meeki. That's why T. meeki is the only Thorichthys that's readily available in most lfs...because they show good color at a young age. But the fact is that all Thorichthys are gorgeous as full colored adults. My personal favs are T. helleri and T. sp 'mixteco gold'.

:)
