I am debating weather to keep my t. ellioti or not. He is extremely aggressive, and I am thinking of maybe replacing him w/ another thorichthys.
I am considering aureus, mixteco or pasiones as a replacement. Are these guys less aggressive? I like aureus the best and could easily get one.

I have read pasiones is the least aggressive in the genus. They get that largest though. Aureus are really stunning. I am not sure if it wouldn't be as aggressive as the ellioti.

Thanks, and I agree that t. aureus are stunning cichlids. I have seen in many different forums that t. ellioti owners have aggression problems, but not anything about any other thorichthys other then firemouths. There is no damage but just a lot of chasing.

What temp do you have the tank at? The genus is split into two groups, the one with the T. aureus and sp. mixteco prefer slightly coolor temps than what we usually keep our mixed tanks at (72-74F).

Right now it is 78-80 because of the extreme heat, but I do try and keep this in the 74-76 range normally. My thermostat in my house is set at 75 and the temp inside is 82 :(.
So with the temps would passiones be a better choice? I beleive ellioti likes it warmer.

I would get what I like the most and see how it goes. With fish there is no guarantee.

Now that is the tough part lol..I like all thorichthys. The thing is that all the other fish are pretty peaceful (my 150g). The ellioti has claimed half the tank, but will only allow the slavini and rostratus on that side. He is extremely aggressive to my deppi and JD. The robertsoni usually puts him in his place being a larger fish.

Affiinis, meeki, and pasiones are the three warmer water loving species.

Thanks. Affinnis would be difficult to find., and I do love meeki, but had one for a long time so want something different. Now I typically keep my tank in the mid 70s, but summer can get up to 80 degrees. Would this be a problem for one of the cooler water sp.in the long run? This 150g is basically unheated most of the year.

I will most likely be selling him and what would be a good pice to ask? He is in excellent health and 7''.

i have t. passiones and they are very aggresive, they constantly nip and chase ny other cichlids, even though all of them are larger than they are.
but i do love the colors on them.
