My group of 6 F1 Thorichthys callolepis F1 'Rio Carolina' recently spawned, around 50 eggs have been layed on 2 rocks, the female is in breeding dress while the male is still in normal colouration. The eggs have still not hatched, heres pictures from yesterday when I noticed them, this is their first spawn.

I will update as they go along.

man that's awesome..congrats. we need to get some of them imported into the states. I don't think i've ever seen them available.

That's awesome!! One of the neatest of the thorichthys species. I have a couple of small growouts, hopefully I'll get lucky and have a pair. Congrats on breeding them!!

Long time no speak Jason! they are available in the US, just need to find out who has them! these came from the US. But yes, they are very hard to come by! Ask Jeff Rapps, he would be your best bet. I would say there are less than 30 in the UK.

Thanks, yes they are stunning fish! quite sensitive aswell, would love to see your grow outs, mine are still quite young 10months or so, was a complete shock to see them with eggs, they are said to spawn around the 18month age.

Any pics of yours? worth an email Jason, these are beautiful fish!

beautiful little fish!

Thanks mate.

Quick update, the eggs hatched and I waited till the last day of the wriggler stage and removed them to a grow out tank free of predators! they are not feeding on baby brine shrimp and look quite stable. A good 80 fish so hopefully I will make these more common in the UK!

I would but I just placed an order a few months ago and it's gonna be a while before I have the spare cash and tank space to place another order. Also I'd be willing to bet my 3 fish tanks that Jeff got those from Rusty. I've been wanting to get back down to Rusty's place to see his fish house again. It is amazing. Just wish I could win a raffle or something and have like 20 min. in his fish house with a net and an unlimited supply of fish bags :D lol
