So trying to do alittle research on them. Was basically talking up smaller less aggressive cichlids like fire mouths to a friend (doesn't have big tanks) and it got me wondering. How well do you think one would do in a 125 with 2 severums and 3-4 geophagus? Very pretty fish and if it could work I'd be willing to drop a geo to fit it in. Also, how much do they play with substrate? I know meeki do it a far bit but how comparable is it to say a geophagus species? Anyways, look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thorichthys are usually mild mannered I've found maculipinnis/elliotti to be very aggressive for a Thorichthys....

That's a shame =S don't really wanna take too many risk with this tank. Want something alittle more laid back and fun to watch.

I find aggression usually occurs when you put fish that have similar feeding styles together.
And because Thorichthys are basically the Central American versions of Geophagus (both eartheaters), the potential for them seeing each other as competitors for the same food supply is apparent (at least to me).
And given that Central American's are generally much more aggressive than South Americans well,....... you see where I'm going, especially given Sam's experience with the species you mention as a new addition to an already established tank.

As above really.
All thorichthys are sand sifters just like geos.
They live in groups in the wild and are best housed this way in tanks.
Despite the fact your geos prefer soft water as apposed to hard and alkaline for thorichthys,I believe it would be a bad mix of fish species.
Thorichthys are quite peaceful for c/a cichlids but maculipinnis is the most aggressive of the genus.

Thanks all for the responses! Will not be doing them this time around thanks to y'all's input.
