I have been looking for these guys since last year when I first saw Jim had bred some. I hit up my LFS to find some and they just got some in a year later. Only problem is they said they found the "yellow firemouths" I had wanted. I have not seen them yet because I got the call late Wednesday night. I will be checking them out around 11 EST.

My question is, is there something I should look out for to tell juvenile Pasionis apart from Elliot or Heleri? I am very familiar with meeki so I should be able to tell them apart but my LFS doesnt get other Thoricthys types in ever so I am not sure what other juvies look like.

It's hard to tell when young, but ellioti/Mac and helleri have a lot more spangling and yellow. T. Mac/ellioti will definitely have red on the throat like this young aureus.

When I got to the store I was surprised they are bigger than I thought a good 3" so I could easily identify. Was also surprised that they got a bunch of other stuff that they don't usually carry so I picked myself up a Red Tiger Motoguense. I will post better pics when I get them in there tanks. The colors are much better they are washed out from stress right now.

Yeah it looks like them. They are on my wish list. Nice RTM too.
