As some of you know I am looking at adding a few more cichlids to my 90 to go with the FM male and JD female I have right now. I have been looking through Jeff Rapps' stock and really like the looks of the Thorichthys 'Mextico" blue, and other Thorichthys variants. Knowing that the FM is a close relative, can I assume agression is on the same level? Have any of you kept these little guys before?

Also, would it be a good idea to find a new home for my female JD (6")?

Thanks everyone!:D

I had an albino mixteco and found it to be more aggressive than my fm even though it was smaller - For whatever that is worth.

i have a couple of the tho speices and i have found that they are abit more aggressive than the firemouth, at the moment i have 3 1.5-3inch Thoricthys ellioti in a 55 as a growout with a biggr(3.5inch) female jd,smaller hrps, simular sized rainbow cichlids and a small sal and the bigger ellioti is the boss, but others do scrap alittle and win sometimes but overall i would class them abit more aggressive than fm and grow abit more, so i would say yes you could add acouple of the mixteco blue, tho 1.5(i think) are too small for a jd if she is aggressive so i would keep the jd in another tank while the blues grow:D i will say tho that i had 2 bigger ones in the 55 and the smaller in a 5g ad the 2 in the 55 the boss was beating on him quite bad and then i found the boss stuck half dead behind the slate and he was fine and the fighting stoped for awhile then started again until the smaller one which i raised got big enough and i add him and they are all fine no fights atall so i would say the proberly they dont like other males so keep an eye out for that, hopefully i get a pair.
nice one for picking the mixteco blue they have great colours iam planning on getting 4-6 when the next local rapps order .
good luck with the plan and we need pics

I have 2 growing out that i bought from Rapps awhile back and they are both about 3 inches right now. I don't find them to be as aggressive as a FM but maybe i have 2 mellow fish. I keep mine in a 55 gallon with some of the L. Honduran Red points that i got at the same time. All of them seem to be getting along just fine. I feed mine mostly spirulina flake food now with small pellets. I would get them for sure if you can. They look like they will be real lookers later.
