I have been having some issues with my Rena xp3s recently and parts are getting expensive and hard to come by. So I picked up an eheim 2260 used. It is not coming with any media. I know this thing holds a ton, so if you would review the media I ordered and tell me if I need to order anything else I'd appreciate it.

So far I ordered
20 lbs bulk no name ceramic rings
4 litres of azoo bio-glass
5 750 g packs of Fluval prefilter rings
I have 1 more pack of Fluval rings already
I also have 1 litre of ehfisubstrate and 0.5 litre Ehfimech. I also have the media in the canisters now, which is a mixture of seachem matrix, ceramic rings, Rena stars, sea gen denitrate (used for bio) and biomax mixed as I got it on sale.

I have plenty of filter floss, bonded pad, and uncut 1" thick mat for finer mechanical.

It's going on my 60g. I know there are better and worse medias out there. I mostly chose these because of cost. I goth the Fluval prefilter rings for 1 dollar a piece.

My end goal is to run just the 2260 and the 2236 that is currently on the tank. I do want to run my Uv sterilizer, inline heater, and inline co2 atomizer off of the 2260, which will cut the flow significantly.

As of right now the filtration is handled by a 2236 running alone, a pair of Rena xp3s with xp4 impellers (one flows through the uv, the other flows through the heater), and a jebao 304 which flows through the co2 atomizer. It is heavily planted.

Sorry for the novel, just wanted to include as much info as possible.

Congrats on a great filter. Same as 2262, just a smaller pump.
I posted a thread some years ago, "setting up a nuclear power plant" or titled similarly. Check it out, it might be of use for you.

you want to end up with a 2260 and a 2236 both on a 60 Gallon? I know this is MFK and all, but that's a lot.

I've found the APi will mail you parts for the Rena for free. That's what I do with the rings and other parts that break over time. Their customer service is top notch.

As for filter media, I'm not a huge fan of ceramic rings and am switching over to other forms of bio media like eheim's products. I have the 2260namd the 2180 along with a bunch of fluval fx5/6's and Rena's. I am planning to replace the ceramic rings over time with eheim media.

Haha yes, it is a lot of filter for a smaller tank. The filtration on it now is mildly ridiculous. However I enjoy going 6-7 months in between cleanings and my discus are happy and healthy, so doesn't bother me.

Ideally I would have rather bough 3 more 2236 and run four of those, but all of my inline accessories are 5/8, and I got an offer to good to refuse on the 2260.

The Rena filters are great. Nothing wrong with them, but my eheims and even the eheim knock offs from jebao are trouble free. The Rena's not so much. It seems like every time they are opened they need something. what really burned me on them however was the last two disconnects I ordered from them new leaked worse than the old ones. The o rings inside the connection leak, fill the pump head, then leak onto the floor. This has happened twice, ordered parts four times and two of the four were defective. I don't mind paying for parts. However a 50 percent defect rate is unacceptable and at 35 dollars a fitting it adds up. Since this has happened twice I cringe even looking at the Rena's now.

Agreed. Quality has really gone down in the last few years after the founder of API passed away. I got my first Rena in 2008 and it was reliable and worked like a champ. The last one I bought a few years ago didn't come with as many tube fittings and pieces and the ring that holds the impeller in place always get loose.

That has pretty much been my experience. I was a die hard Rena fan. Now I am switching everything to eheim. Although the jebao knockoffs have been just as good as the real eheims.
