Ok so everybody knows those black iron bar stands right? well my question is you know how they have a little bit of storage on the bottom? would the the 55 gal iron stand be able to hold 2 55 gallons? on on top of the stand and one on the bottom?

I had em setup that way, couldn't get squat out of the bottom tank. A 40L would work better but you'd still be limited on getting things in and out.

The steel stands we get up in Ontario at Big Al's are made by Ontario Manufacturing in Hamilton. You can put another tank on the bottom level but there is not too much room above it for opening lids and doing maintenance etc.
Also they seem to be rather lightly made for two tanks (although I'm sure they would hold them). For example, the stands for a 48X18 footprint are made from 1" tube.
I had a couple custom stands made up for my 75/90's from 1.5" tube and more distance between the two levels (30"). These are rock solid.
I also picked up a custom 2" tube stand that will hold two 180's (yet to be set up).
I would suggest you check out a local metal fabricator or welding shop and see how much it would cost to make you a stand.

Burt :)

You can put two tanks on an iron stand, but the bottom tank should be smaller than the top one. One my 55 gallon iron stand I have the 55 on top and a 33 gallon long on the bottom. Like the previous posters wrote there is just not enough vertical space to put another 55 on the bottom without it being a PITA.

This one is made to keep the same size tank underneath. These are 75's.
Plenty of room underneath, but the top one is kind of high up.

thanks for all the replies putting another 55 will leave me with absolutly no room to do maintance. also I tried filling them and its just way to sketchy, I thing the thing would tip over so Im proboly going to put like a 40 gal or mabey 2 20s underneath

Yeah, all metal stands are built differently, depending on where you got it.
If you think the stand can't support a large tank, just put something smaller (and try not to walk into your stand)
I have a 40 gallon metal stand and have a 10 underneath, and tons of room to do maintenance etc.

When I was a teenager we had a iron stand with a 55G on top and a 30G on bottom for years without any problems.....

the ones we get here in Ontario are fine for two tanks. they are designed to hold two.

I used to have a 90/65 stacked among others for years and years.

the thing to remember is that although tube steel is light, it is incredibly strong.

my old fishroom with all metal tube stands:

also, my new fishroom (150g) with a tube stand made with 1.5" tube steel.

the point is, they are extremely strong :).
