There's a uro at a store here, about 8" and cheap. The only thing holding me back is two spots above/behind both eyes. I need to know if your sub-adult uros have good size sensory pits in these spots. I ask because they just seem very deep for sensories, and I'm pushed away by hith. There are no other spots to convince me 100% it's hith, so I need your help! Thanks.

Do they look non-uniform in shape and white? As far as I know sensory pits will be black, HITH is usually a non-uniform hole, especially if it's on both sides - and white in color.

That's the thing, they just look like overgrown sensory pits. Fairly uniform, and in about the same spot on both sides. But I'm not aware of too many sensory pits above or behind the eyes. Usually they are at the bridge between the eyes and forward. Everything I've ever seen this far back has been hith. But he doesn't show signs of it anywhere else. Lateral line is good, the rest of the head is good. These two holes are just driving me crazy. And I've never seen a uro bigger than a few inches in person, so I didn't know what to think. Can anyone with a uro near this size give me some head shots?? I would have taken a pic, but the lighting sucked in the tank, and it would have been a cell shot, but they never work.

Nevermind. I finally found a couple good pics (finally). They definately are not sensory pits. Thanks for AAALLLL the responses though. :grinno:

Haha I tried - without pics it's kind of hard to give any input :)

You could probably talk the LFS down on the price and rescue the fish - HITH is pretty easy to heal up, just takes a long time.

^ yep Uro are very fun fish if you have the tank for them they like to push others around

Haha, thanks. I wish I could have gotten some sort of pic, but it just wasn't going to happen. They've only got $10 on him, but I just don't think I want to deal with the chances. Especially being the new addition to a tank where everyone else is already comfortable.
