i currently have a 90 gallon tank with my flowerhorn and other tank mates but im thinking about taking them out and putting them in another tank. What i was thinking is adding a female but dividing the tank. the flowerhorn i have is about 3.5 inches i would like them to "get to know each other". i would buy a female that is smaller than him now and let them grow out for a while. Do you think that this is a wise move to do now and such a younger age? should i wait until he is bigger to get a female? i was just looking at julie (aquacraze) and she has some really nice looking females. Or do you know of any other top quality vendors for fish/ anything close to Massachusetts? Thanks for all the help and advice!! here is the pic of my flowerhorn "Clint" that i have in my tank at the moment!!DSC_0063.JPG

Julie does have some nice ones. It all really depends on how much you feel like spending. It wouldnt hurt to try now if you get a female. The 90 gallon would be plenty for the two of them.

not sure why you want to add a female for him at that ages but I kept flowerhorns since 2007 and I found out a lot thing by adding a female next to the male and at a young ages. Adding a female next to it will make your male hump shrink due to trying to breed with the female.

The kok will shrink during breeding, but after it will get big again if separated from the female. It's gonna do the same thing in a community tank like he is in now. The only way to get true potential is to be the only one in the tank period.

Thanks for the info. What the crazy thing is I have a hard time breaking up my fish in that tank. Reason being is that the big Firemouth "Major" is I call him, he was one of my fish fish and he really something to look at. The second fish in that tank is my Blue Texas I got him at Petco but I think the color and pearling is really nice he is completely covered in greenish blue pearls. Then I have my Jack Dempsey but I'm not really to attached to him just because the coloring is not that great. Finally (besides the flowerhorn) is a Red Texas I bought him just before (like 2 weeks) I got the FH I got him be because around here a Red Texas is rare item, but had i known what was coming in (the beautiful Flowerhorn) I wouldn't have gotten the RT. Also the Flowerhorn I bought, in the 7+ years I have been into the fish hobby I have NEVER seen one like that at any of my LFS and i just couldn't pass up the deal i got him for. Has that ever happen to you guys where you just see a fish that is not a "normal" fish and you buy? I'm so conflicted with what to do.
