Since being in the hobby I have always used eheim jager heaters. There is no real reason I am looking for something different other than the size and look of the eheims.

I don't like how big they are and they look bad and are hard to hid in my open scape tank. I like to replace my heaters before they fail as well,

I am looking at the cobalt heaters and the look will blend right into my black background, also they are much smaller. But how do they hold up? are they good quality units? any reason for me not to use one?

Its either I switch to a new heater or I am building a DIY inline heater using the eheim for my tank. Which could potentially cause more headaches than its worth.

Thoughts?

Will I be good with a single 200W heater? my home never drops below 20 degree Celsius. and I have light fitting glass lids next to no evap.

Years ago they were problematic with issues but i thought all was worked out in the newer modles? Not sure how much the low ratings apply to current model. I know the reviews are relatively current but not sure if the experiences are and based on new versions. I have never used them.

I actually just got off the phone with a representative from cobalt to clear this up as I really like the idea of getting my hands on a nicer looking unit that is much smaller.

Basically in 2015 there was issues with the heating element not being installed properly and would melt the housing. Any first gen 150w and 200w heater would or could be problematic. There is a second generation of heaters that were released since then. There has been no reported incidents since.

With the transparency I received on the phone and the very clear explanation of what was happening I feel good about purchasing one of their new heaters.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone like me who is looking for a different option for heating their tank.
