Hey Guys/Gals,

Recently picked up a male and female Hystrix ray from aquascape. Presently I have them in my 75g setup with a 25 sump. Tank has 100 lbs of pond filter sand and the only other inhabitants are 10 snails. This tank used to hold a SW reef so, the lighting is a little bright.
When I first got the rays (a week ago tonight) they took their time acclimating to the tank and by Friday were both eating black worms like pigs. Saturday my female was swimming around the tank looking really happy. The male took a little more time getting active but, eventually was just as active. All week they've been eating really well and they still are. However, they seem a lot less active. They're mostly sitting around on the sand. When I put food in the tank (still feeding live black worms w/ pieces of fish) they don't go for it right away. They watch it for a little than start eating slowly.
Any thoughts on what I should do? Medicine? COuld my light be to strong? Your thoughts are appreciated!

Did you have any occupants in the tank other than the snails before you added the rays?. If not you added two rays, their Bioload and there food to a minimal Bacterial Bed. So I am guessing your water params are off and the BB will have to catch up to the Bio load. Have you checked them? What are they. What is your water change regimen?

Before the rays I shrimp cycled for a few days then late the tank sit for a week. After my ammonia came down I put 40 or so feeds with the snails in for about 3 weeks. The day before picking up my rays I moved the feeders to a different tank. Water was in check prior to adding the rays. I'll recheck in the morning and post my findings.

ammonia and nitrite are 0 according to Petco. Going to by a test kit as my old one was expired. Any recommendation on which kit? I was going to buy the regular API ones.

My female has been eating like a champ and is very active. My male is not doing as well. He doesn't flinch when I feed (LBW) only eating after the foods been in for a while. In addition to not aggressively eating he doesn't do much. He likes sleeping under the air stone buried in the sand. He pretty much stays like that all the time. Could he have some disease?
