For my 180g I ve just bought a 12" L025 which arrives Wednesday . I was also planning on putting in a 10" Vulture and a 10" lapredi birchir . Does this seem like a set up that could potentially work ? Thanks

Bichirs and plecos are usually a no go though there are rare exceptions. However the vulture and either or would be fine. I'd say if you go with the bichir get it a little larger like 15". Just to be on the safe side cause the vulture will likely outgrow it and you don't want the slender bichir to be a snack I'd assume.

I did nt think the birchir would be a problem with the plec . Thought it was only conspecisis plecs got upset about ?

It isn't territorial aggression, but they suck the slime coat off the bichir and make the bichir very stressed and susceptible to other issues.

It sounds like it potentially can work from my limited prospective but bearing in mind what Moe has said, there is a risk.

I'm not into bichirs, nor plecos, so I didn't know. My experience with these two kinds of fish is very small. IME, bichirs are indeed so slow and indifferent that I imagine a zealous pleco might suck on their slime. IDK how widespread this danger is. Some synodontis catfish like eupterus have been reported to do this too to their tankmates but it seems it happens rather rarely, like 1 in a 1000 to any significant degree. Yet indeed my 8" eupterus killed my 28" iridescent shark catfish by doing this.

Ended up not going for a birchir and went for 9" Vulture and 12" L025 . Think I will leave it at that for bottom dwellers
