IMG_0988.JPG IMG_0983.JPG my severum has some white growth on him. These popped up last night and today. Any idea what it is? Doesn't look like ick.

Maybe it's some type of fungus/viral infection/lymphocystitis? One of my corries got something similar, I think he scraped something while being stressed while I had him in the 90 full of cichlids. It didn't go away for a while but eventually did once I moved him to my no-stress 20. It hasn't occured again.

I would try aquarium salt and see if any tankmates are stressing him out a bit. If it gets worse maybe isolate him.

I was thinking lymphocystis too. The fish passed 2 days later. It did not appear to be stressed by any tank mates.

That is the first stages of Hexamita or as it it is better known "hole in the head"

This will not spread onto the ray or is any way associated with the spots on the ray.

You need to isolate the fish and treat with eSHa Hexamita, you can order it online.

The white puss is oozing out of the sensory pores, seen this many times, its the right diagnosis, it can take a while to clear up.
Feed Hikari Cichlid mini sinking pellets, this helps, it is a dietary problem that starts this process. I have found that South American Cichlids that are fed Hikari foods almost never develop the problem.
All my fish are great thanks, I'm still breeding a few Marbles, Pearls, Leos, hens and of course my favourite wallacei AKA hystrix.

You take care Jason,

Regards,

Richard.
