First, what should be avoided, in any pellet? For example, any particular ingredients that should be avoided?

Second, what are good wholesale sources or inexpensive sources for large amounts of pellets? My large gars are eating a lot!

Third, are there any pellets that should be avoided, by name?

I have traditionally been using Hikari.

Ok heres what i know. So hikari is a really good power feeding brand. if you have a grow-out tank and just cant wait for them to grow any longer massivores is best. If you want awesome colors and less maintenance then you don't want fillers in your pellets. hikari is pretty much all fillers. fillers have nothing in them, its like the pink slime for the meat industry. which then causes fish to poop more compared to a whole foods pellet. the 'whole' part is vital to the equation. without the word 'whole' next to the ingredient its probably just trimmings and ground bones. omega1 and new life spectrum (nls) both have whole ingredients and little to no fillers. The best part is, your NOT paying more for the 'whole' part, omega1 and nls are cheaper than hikari. petco/petsmart almost always carry omega1. some will carry nls as well. remember to ALWAYS check the ingredients on the back of the product! you need to train yourself to always, always, always look on the back. the first ingredient listed is the most abundant, followed by the second and so forth. words starting/ending with meal, like corn meal or starch are examples of fillers. you dont want fillers!

Very helpful info, thanks. I had no idea Hikari was mostly fillers - From my experience, it is not messy at all - interesting.
I don't care about growth at all - I'm just trying to find a way to get larger qty's to keep up with my gars, without spending tons of cash.
