Hey, new poster here, hope this section is ok. I just bought a 48x24x25 tank from Goodwill at a screaming $100 price. Everything looks good except I'm worried that the stand isn't sturdy enough. I'm no handyman but I can follow directions and butt together some 2x4s if need be, but I just wanted some opinions on whether or not it's going to be necessary to "fix" it. The stand doesn't wobble and nothing is warped or splitting.

Not sure if the pictures are sufficient to make a decision, but here goes nothing. Thanks guys.

I love to overbuild things and really make things safe so I would say that stand is not trustworthy, but that's just me. If I were you I would either make a cheap stand out of cinder blocks or if you are handy and can make a stand I would do that

i would not trust it. you could reinforce it with some 2x4s on the inside then it could be a possibility. that center board having that giant knot in it is itself a structural weakpoint

Not that over building is bad, it looks like any manufactured tank stand I have ever seen

I had a 4x2 150 gallon tank on a similar stand. I was suprised it was enough but there were no problems.

that tank will weigh about 800 lbs once full depending on what type and how much substrate you put into it. the other thing that worries me is that it is only 6 1x4 holding all that up. like was previously stated, it does look like a manufactured stand but i am with the first guy. do you want to save a few bucks and a little time or have the possibility of having that 125 gallons of water and all your expensive stock on the living room floor.

Thanks everybody. Glad I asked. I think I'm just going to rebuild the stand following Uarujoey's tutorial, seems simple enough.
