Tonight on the way back from supper caught this little bugga outside in the rain. Not exactly sure what species it is, but I've got my guess's. I was thinkin some sort of water snake or pine snake...not familiar with the fauna in this area though. Magans whole family was saying it was a water moccassin, but really don't think its that...especially the way it reacted when i was trying to catch it. Tried to curl up in a ball instead of fight back like most poisonous snakes will do. Either way, I had a blast!! Love snakes!!

pine snake or rat snake would be my guess

Gray Rat snake of some sort would be my guess. Nice find nonetheless.

I love how when people see water and a snake in the same day, most automatically say
" :nilly: water moccassin:nilly: ". Good grab though. Yup, it does look like Elaphe obsoleta.

Haha....Glad my colubrid IDing skills are still intact. I haven't dealt with them in years.

Yeah nice rat snakes. A couple years ago I was wade fishing a creek and had walked farther then I had before so I deicided to climb up the hill from the creek to get a look at exactly where I was. Well as I was climbing I noticed how dark and rich and loose the soil was and I actually came upon a nest of these little buggers as they were coming out of their shells. It was truly a great sight, however, it was quickly ruined when I got to the top of the hill and realized I had been climbing in horse **** as there was a horse barn on the top!

Eww....At least the land must have been fertile, LOL.
