So I was hanging out the other day and a sparrow hit the window. I went outside and the little guy was already dead. Then I noticed this tick. I took some pictures bc it was huge mainly in comparison to the sparrow. The tick was attached just below the eyelid. I was just amazed at how big the tick was.

I just put my shears there for size comparison.

It has been feeding off the poor little bird all this time.. and of course the sparrow couldn't see out of the eye.. thats really sad..

^Wonder if that caused him to hit the window? If you are missing an eye, even if you are looking dead-on at something with the other eye, your depth perception is off.

i would think thats what happened and also weakened condition contributed to being off kilter... poor guy

Hello; If I recall from ornithology classes back in the 60's bird ticks can be a type of tick adapted specifically for birds. Of course the bird may have picked up another type of tick somewhere. I think the bird ticks we found on birds were smaller than the one pictured. Some birds feed on ticks. At any rate that was a sad end to the bird.

Would the impact from being hit into the window not be the root cause of its death?

around here when birds bounce off windows, the root cause of death is a very opportunistic CAT. :owned:
