Hello all,
I came up with a way to eliminate the every present problem of loose debris being blown into the water after a water change. Everyone is most likely familiar with media bags. I use them in all my filters.
Here was my issue. On the tidal 110, 75, etc there's a skimmer. This can be a good thing and a issue as well. There is a compartment with an open space under the basket to slide a piece sponge in the slot to catch surface debris. But, unfortunately some debris does slide by and enter the media basket getting hung up on the media bags. Not really an issue until you shut off the filter for a water change and when turning it back on it blows whatever is built up on the bags back into the water column to cloud it up. It drives me nuts. Here is a pic of said build up
So.....here was my solution. I took a piece of knitting plastic ...you know that stuff that has a 100 purpose other than knitting. I cut it to fit the front of the filter basket and slid it in.

Then replaced sponges and it held it in place.

Then I took the bio media out (matrix) and dumped it back in and then added my bag of purigen.
So now when it comes to regular maintenance, I dump media out into plastic cup full off tank water squeeze out my sponges and and replace back all in the filter. No more scrubbing the media bag and I can do my maintenance in shorter time. I've tested this threw 4 water changes and two filter cleanings, and it does work.
Little side note....I probably would not purchase this filter again. Not saying it's a bad filter but I feel that my aquaclear 110's I have running are easier to maintain.
