Hey is tidal marine substrate ok to use in freshwater tanks? the reason i ask is because at my local petsmart its on sale for 7$ for a 20 lb bag. and i was wanting to add sand to my 20 gallon tank, so that would be perfect.

Some tank bred fish aren't from higher pH conditions in the wild but can thrive in higher pHs. This is is basically Argonite and will buffer to pH on the upper side of 8.0. Check up on your fish and see if they might like this.
Anyways, you're not thinking along the terms. You want to buy this stuff for an existing tank. You should just set up a new one. Wife: "Why the hell is there a new fish tank in the bathroom?" You: "They had a sale on rocks...."
