I picked up a 4" tig about 6 months ago as well as some 3" orinos. I fed the orinos live to get them growing quickly. I tried to keep the tig on frozen only but of course a couple minnows escaped my bass an found their way to my tig. Soon the tig was pounding fathead minnows 3-4 per feeding and growing nicely. Well two weeks ago I decided to get everyone on frozen. The bass have already made the switch and eat frozen shrimp but the tig is not interested at all. I tried to starve him for 5 or 6 days but still nothing. I gave in and fed him some live minnows through a tube so they couldmake it pass the bass. He ate them and that was about a week ago. Then in the last 2 days my tig has been going crazy he usually hangs out under a stump but now he is going all over the tank. He is going up the sides, doing loops, bumping into driftwood, etc. which he has never done before. I put in live minnows to see if he would eat them, but he swam right by them and didn't go after any of them. I also noticed when he sits on the bottom he seems to be arching his back upward. This is also new. I also think he might be getting picked on a little bit by my 6" royal pleco since ther is a nip on one of his side fins.

I have no clue what's wrong. I am starting to worry, I lost a fh to dropsy about a month and a half ago and I'm a little paranoid right now. Anyone have any idea of what's going on, is he acting this way because he's hungry? Any tips on getting him to eat? Could it be any other kind of illness or parasite? All the other fish are doing fine.

you should NEVER feed a small tig below 10-12inch on frozen for mainly shrimp mussel or other salt water foods they cant digest them the flips and loops are him trying to pass frozen food thats prob been him for weeks or months

i have seen this many many times all with small tigs that have had frozen shrimp at some point

the best and main food that should be fed to small tigs is hikari sinking carnivore

he maypass the food he may not

i hope it works out for you and once he gets past 12inch they can eat anything

its also not good to power feed them people buy very small tigs and want them big fast

tigs are rubbish hunters and wouldnt get much food in the wild and buy using a pipe its like feeding a fish that never needs to move they need to hunt to burn off the food

Check the tank temp. High temperature could make fish more active. Did you make any change to your tank like add/remove decoration or tankmate. Tig goes up the side wall, because they're scare/nervous. Your assumption of the pleco is legit. You can continue to feed your tig with frozen shrimp without any worry. Just make sure defrost the shrimp in warm water, remove the exoskelleton, and feed it every other day, give it time to digest the food.
