3 days ago my Tig swam into the back corner of the tank and has been "glass swimming" pointed towards the surface since. He does not look distressed, no pinkness, good color, no rapid breathing or any other signs of distress. He is eating like an animal as well, no loss of appetite. He just hovers there, treading water. I checked everything and even dropped in 2 huge airstones too make sure there was enough disolved 02 in the tank. Temp=80.5, PH=7.2, Ammonia=0, Nitrite=0, Nitrate= less than 5ppm, KH=3, TDS=160, so as near as I can see, there is no damn reason for him doing this??? Any ideas???

Its nothing to worry about. Mine has done that and always stopped doing so after a while. Make sure you have enough dissolved oxygen in the tank.

all tigs do it -its a tig thing

mine does it all the time when the lights are on but as soon as food hits the water he goes mad eats what he can before the rays finish it off then back swimming up the side glass

if you look at the back corner you can see the tig doing the tig thing :D

Your rays are absolutly spectacular! What size tank is that?

My tig doesnt do that often, but it will on occasion. Does it have enough hiding places? Ive only noticed it if they feel unsafe and want to hide but dont have any spots to hide, or if water quality is not the best.

I wonder that too? I thought about building him a "den" like a big piece of slate sitting on rocks or ??? but then maybe I'd never see him? He was hanging out in the crook of a piece of driftwood. What do you use for a hiding spot for your Tig?

Oh if it doesnt have any darkness im pretty sure thats why the tig is swimming up the glass. I keep a 4ft strip light on the 6ft tank. I make sure the light isnt in the center of the tank so there is a darker area on one side of the tank.

I just took these pics real quick,,,it is during a water change. Notice how the light is more on the right side. I also have a log that wont completely sorround the tig so I can still see him.

Hey Blackwater,

My past and current tig have swam vertical... when, there is no place to shelter it from the other tankmates; aro, rays, turtle, etc. So, I added several large pieces of wood in the corners of the tank for it to chose what area made it feel safe and comfortable. You will notice a difference in its attitude, once you have established a comfort-zone for it. Just my experience with Tigs.

I've even gone a little further and created a shelter... see pics

Here is my set-up. Maybe I can rearrange the big pieces of driftwood I have, or get a driftwood log with a recess under it for him? I was thinking about building a slate "ledge" set-up maybe for him to hide under?
