I'm setting up a 420 gallon in the upcomeing weeks. And I am wondering what is the lower cost alternative to Tig and Ray setups. A Jurnese and what pair (?) of rays would be happy for life in a 9'x30"x30"? And what kind of top/mid swimmer could I add for some movement? If possible all should be compatible with an Oscar...

Why don't you just save up some money and get a tig. I know someone selling babies for $100.

Jur, tin foil barbs, silver dollars and potamotrygon hystrix

That is another alternative but it's only partly about the money. A $100 for a fish is not a problem. Most Tigs I've seen are $200-$300 and Rays $500 and up. I can afford it just can't justify spending that much money for an animal. If I could get a Tig for a $100 and a pair of Rays for a reasonable price I'd be happy.

^^^^there you go..grow outs are your best bet there. Then add a leichardti or a jardini.

Jurense are cool cats. Id do one of them, hystrix ray any aro would be fine. Jardinis get aggressive once they mature so keep that in mind. A silver or black you can mix with a ton of other fish. And as far as keeping a silver in a 30" wide tank, how many monster silvers have you seen in 125g tanks? I had a 28" in a 24" wide 300g. He was fine.

Definitly looking for young fish to let them all grow up together except the Oscar and Lima (already have) which I'll add in when the catfish and rays are big enough. Probably the biggest hurddle is a low cost stingray or alternative. I like them but my daughter has insisted they are a must for this tank. Don't hystrix get up to 39"? I'm afraid they wouldn't have enough open area in a 9' tank with only about 7' of open area.. (big piece of driftwood)
