I'm not sure if any barbs have ever been hybridized. There is a good chance that they are genetically compatible, but getting the two species to actually spawn could be quite difficult. Many barbs tend to go through color changes before/while spawning in order to advertise ripeness. The two species would likely not recognize the others spawning colors. Your best bet would be stripping eggs and milt from ripe adults, which is dangerous with large fish yet alone small fish. If you want to achieve "natural" spawning between them, follow typical barb spawning rules:
1.) seperate males from females.
2.) Fatten them both up for a week or two.
3.) In the evening, place a ripe female and male into the spawning tank located where it gets natural morning light.
4.) Spawning should commence the following morning.
The young would likely look like an average between the two, half barred, slightly better color in males, etc.
