I have a 2.5" female tiger barb who has trouble laying her eggs. I purchased her about a year ago with another female, who died a few months ago because she could not release her eggs. The current one is pregnant, and can no longer swim strait. My question is: Can you force a fish to lay eggs? I know they massage koi to make them release them, but can you do that on a 2" fish? ANy ideas?

How did you know your fish has eggs? Do you have pics?

Post a picture of your barb. If you only have one, then it is very unlikely that it is fat with eggs. It probably has dropsy, bloat, or an intestinal parasite such as camelanus.

I have 5 tiger barbs, but they were purchased at 2 different times. Luckily, she released most of her eggs last night. I am not 100% sure they are eggs, but she gets this fat on a regular basis, to the point where she cannot swim, and then overnight or whatever, lays them. Or, in the case of my 6th tiger barb, she dies. I do not know what else they could be.
In case this happens again, as it has in the past, is there anything to induce a fish to lay eggs?
