So, i went to do my weekly 50% water change on my 125. I stuck the tube in, and started the siphon. The rasboras were nearby, so i moved it towards the front, where the tiger barbs checked it out curiously. I never though they would it into the 1/2 inch opening. However, my smallest one, about 2 inches long, did, and got himself stuck about 18" up my 25' tube. I finally saved him by cutting the tube and then blowing him out. He is fine now, but i could have been lucky.

Long story short, do NOT leaves siphons uncovered - i normally stick a sponge at the end of the tube, and will remember to do that 100% of the time in the future, but my one time not using it caused a minor disaster, so be careful :)

or... shove it into your gravel to siphon out the gunk. Fish can't get sucked into the gravel then up the tube...

LOL - good point about gravel vac, but its a planted tank, and the plants dont like me gravel vac-ing ;)

Yes, i did get lucky though :)

This happened to me last week. Look into the tank and I see this weird thing in my siphon. Im like wtf, look closer and ****! my small common goldfish is sucked up sideways all the way to the top! He got a few torn fins and some blood blisters but is still kicken. Now I make sure the siphon is away from the smaller fish.

I sucked up a LF rosey barb with a python. It crushed him, making it difficult to remove. Don't remove large diameter tube when using around small fish.

I have sucked up a goldfish before with my python but my g/f went to the other end and got him off the ground brought him back in and he was fine (till I feed with to my Ps)

I was vacuuming the gravel and left it in to remove more for a water change. Next thing I know I have a green glofish danio in the tube. Had my husband lift the drain end over his head and drained the fish back into the tank. Only a little torn tail :duh:.
