tiger barbs in a 10g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wouldnt put them in anything less then a 20g long, personally. and if you keep only a small group, they torment each other . i would keep a minimum of 8 in a decent sized tank.

Yeah, tiger barbs are a ver yactive fish and will not work in a tank so small. And yes they need to be kept in large schools to prevent "bullying". Get around 10.

I think 5-6 would be fine in a 10g. Since they are schooling fish they do fine being somewhat crowded. In a 10g the entire shoal would not have much roaming room but the individual fish would have more then enough room to roam within the shoal.

Have you ever seen black ruby barbs? they are a little less agressive and you could do 6 in a 10. The males get a deep red almost purple color when breeding. The females look like washed out tiger barbs. Google some adults in breeding dress they are stunning.

Tiger barbs need a minimum tank size of 30 gallons due to them being very active. They also need to be in groups of at least 6 to keep aggression issues down and kept inside the school.

The 6-7 tiger barbs I kept in a 55g then a 72g tank were not very active at all outside of the shoal. The shoal mainly stayed in about on quarter of the tank.

^i have 11 in a 125g and they are all over the place. maybe they felt uncomfortable in your tank.
