Hey guys I have a 10 gallon which has 2 juvenile convicts, and I was wondering, I know that you should have semi aggressive fish to go with the cons, and I want a semi aggressive schooling fish would a tiger barb be ok?? If not what else is semi aggressive?

Cons will get too big for your 10 gallon. A pair of cons probably needs a minimum of a 29 gallon. If you grew your Cons out and put them in a little bigger tank, I think Tiger Barbs would probably work with them.

you prolly realize by now that tiger barbs are nippy. you could try come other small barbs that school, rosy etc.

No i know they are fin nippers, but my cons, which will go into a growout, if they dont have semi aggresive fish mates, they will harass them to death, thats why I want ted the tigers.

I have a school of 5 young tiger barbs in with a 3" Jack Dempsey and a 6" senegal bichir. Tried a school of danios first but the bichir ate 4 of them and the JD killed the other 2 within the first day.

The tiger barbs are doing great so far, the JD charges them sometimes but they are too quick and alert to get hit.

Also from my experience so far and what i've read, they won't nip anyone but each other if they are in a decent sized group, and even less of a chance if they are constantly on alert from an aggressive cichlid.

I thought about trying rosy barbs because I was still wary of the nippyness of the tigers, but those things look way too much like goldfish for my taste, glad I went with the tigers.

i bought 3 red tail tinfoil barbs and put it in a 77 gallon with a juvenile dovii
and he i woke up and they were all floating.
i doubt cons are as aggressive though, you'll need like 30+ for those cons though.

I had a group of 12 tiger barbs with 4 angel fish in a 50g tank before for over a year and did not notice any nipping. They seemed peaceful to me.

You'll be surprised how cons can even match cichlids several times larger than their size. With a 10g, don't even attempt tiger barbs with cons in it. Even tiger barbs need plenty of space and cramped quarters can trigger their nippy behavior. Either side loses in the end.
