Hi All,

I recently lost my Ornate Bichir to bloat about 1 and 1\2 weeks ago.
Since I lost him my Tiger has yet to eat anything.
I try feeding him at night with no avail. He use to eat no matter what time of the day it was.
I have treated the tank with salt and kept the temp at 30 degress C for the last week but still nothing he doesnt even seem interested in food.

He is is a comm tank as he has always been but he seems lifeless and doesnt cruiz around the tank as he used to do.

He is not showing any external signs of infection but I am wondering if he may have an internal parasite and if so how could I treat it.

His tank mates are 2 spotted gars a Datnoid and an Arowana.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tank parameters are as follows

Size 8 x 3 x 2
PH 6.8
Ammonia 0.0
Nitrate 0.10
Nitrite 0.0
Temp 30

Do you feed with lights on or off? If you feed with lights on, try feeding with lights off.

what are you feeding it? and has any other behavior been different? less active?

I feed him prawns and small whitebait, He did eat a bristlenose catfish about 3 weeks ago but that didnt seem to bother him. He is less active and seems to strugle when coming up for a breat at the surface. He seems to be using his fins to swim more than his body.

Try lowering your temperature to like 28 or lower. 30 is abit too hot IMO!

I wouldn't doubt if it is the bristlenose causing the problem. They are extremely bony and have very sharp spines.

+1 its possible he can't digest the spines

my bichir ate a gar the same size as himself and he acted odd for a while too

how big was the BN pleco?
