Hey guys. Im new to this forum so I want to start off by saying hi and I hope I get to talk to most of you over the next while.

My question today is one that has puzzled me for a couple weeks.

I purchased a Tiger Datnoid (silver) on November 20th 2010 and I am having a feeding issue with him. His tank mates currently are a Retropinnis Polypeturus, 2 touquoise rainbows, 1 large pink kisser and 1 archer fish. All of the tank mates eat pretty much anything. The Retro likes to eat only krill but thats fine, he eats well. NOw my datnoid has been offered the following and has rejected all: Frozen krill, frozen brine, meal worms, dried blood worms, flake, an pellet. Now the only thing I can get him to actually eat is feeders. I have done some research and it mostly says that some will only eat feeders. Is this true? He was wild caught (not captive bread). I did have some plattys in the tank to make a mess and to kick start the cycles then when I added the datnoid, he are one of the males then didnt eat for a while (a week or so) then attacked the albino ruby shark that was in the tank that was much too big for him.

Is it beneficial to start feeding him guppy fry? Only reason I say this is because I put 30 fry in the tank today and he ate them all within maybe 3 or 4 mins. Haha.

So I am just wondering what options I have with this. Thanks a lot guys.

How big is the dat?...The best course might be to starve it for a week or so and then try adding different foods. The dat is only used to eating live foods and will have to be trained off of them.

Try frozen blood worms, I have never had a dat refuse those yet.

this is what i have my dat on right now. i'm trying to train it to eat other foods, but ive failed so far with pellets, freeze dried worms, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried krill. so frozen bloodworms for now, still better than live food

Yeah, they are hard to get off bloodworms too, but like you said, better than live. I've had luck by soaking pellets in with the bloodworms, and by going from bloodworms to market shrimp, then stuffing the market shrimp with pellets.

My 10" indo will occasionally eat the largest krill.....I hand feed him large frozen sliversides.....pretty much a safe cheap dead feeder. He eats two big fish every day!

i'm fairly new to datnoids and i have 4 of them ranging from 2" to 5", maybe even larger. you might want to try "sinking carnivore pellets" or, if they are large enough, "massivore pellets"...not sure who makes them, maybe hikari.

just saying i have had good luck with them with my 3 larger datnoids 5" each, or so. they accepted them as food from almost day 1, and now are a joy to feed as they come up to me when i apporach the tank, looking for the pellets. they eat the pellets a second or two after i toss them in.

take it or leave it. however, maybe becuase of his size, my 2" one only eats frozen bloodworms.

i should add i may have just gotten lucky. i also have a 6" clown knife and he readily accepts pellets as well. i have heard of clown knife fish starving themselves for months as to not accept anything but live...i think dats can be similiar.
