Just wondering if putting a dark background on the tank sides would prevent the tiger fish from going full speed. I know these fishes get nervous and such. If covering the sides with a black boarder will prevent them from going full speed into the glass and make them aware of their surroundings better. I have heard that they always run themselves in the sides of the tank.

What kind of ATF is it? GATFs tend to be more skittish than other types. Also, it really depends on the fish. IME, they tend to calm down after many months of not disturbing the water too much (moving decor around, putting hands inside frequently etc..).

Not sure about the colour. But spend a lot of time infront of the tank and he will get used to you within a month. I had my Forskahlii for about 1 year now. Begs for food every time I go near the tank. Not skittish at all now. One of these days I'm gonna try to hand feed that fish and make a video.

Don't make any sudden movements though. Don't get too close to the tank during the first month. But spend time around the tank.

Keep the tank open water without any deco. Also keep water flow high.
If you have a Goliath it will be very tough to tame. It is very rare for a Gatf to fully settle down unless the tank is insanely huge.
