One of my goals for awhile has been to catch a tiger muskie (we don't have true muskie in CO, except in a few private lakes I have heard about) on a flyrod. Last year, I accomplished my goal with a stunning catch...I was just pulling my fly into view (a black clouser, one of the best flies ever made lol) and I noticed two fish coming in fast from the right. The lead one rushed forward and engulfed my fly. When I finally won the epic 5 second battle, a tiger muskie was finally in my hands. Granted, it was only about 10", but I was pumped!

I really want to catch one that will actually put up a fight, my goal is a 40"er, although I know it will be tough to do on a flyrod. If any of you can give me some tips on tiger muskie, I would really appreciate it! Even if you don't flyfish, I would still appreciate your help! I have been incorporating conventional angling techniques with flyfishing with good success over the past few years.

hit the inside weed edges with a hard packed sand flat of 3' slowly fading to shore...look on the flat as they will be sitting on it just after/before sun rise/set...if your lake is heavily presured then go small...i can't even begin to tell you how many i find on the flats...also in the mid-morng till mid-afternoon focus on the 9' outside weed edges...this is how we do it in MN witch is the home of the tigers since most of the brood stock comes from MN...a REALY REALY REALY great fly is a "pink rat"...get some rabbit fur and die it pink...then cut a 10-15" water tower style section...then have 2 wide gap red bass hooks...use steel to conect the 2 together leave about 5-7" of tail after the second hook...then "roll" the wide part onto the hook on the lead hook(if you want a weighted fly you would put the lead on the shaft of the first hook then "roll" the fur on so you end up with a mouse like shape...use pink thread and tie it on like you would a streamer...i have caught alot of fish on this fly i made up...use fast strips till a fish is on it then little twitches with a speratic quick strip here and there...then be ready...if you don't put the second hook on it you will get alot of short changes...the fish in MN go crazy over pink, black and white so you could make one of each...gl
