So i've been keeping fish for about 9 months now and my oscars were the first fish i have they were two inches when i got them and now have grown to about 9 inches. They have always stuck together and recently have dug a pit out in the bottom of their tank. They also display behavior like they are going to spawn such as tail slapping and vibrating and they never leave each others side. Is there anyway to stimulate them to spawn? i have already turned the temp up to about 81 degrees about 2 days ago but nothing has happened.

I hate to say it, but until you see the eggs, you don't know that you have a pair. Even then you can sometimes be fooled because the eggs won't get fertilized.

to stimulate spanning you should start with a diet of live food such as insects and worms then after a water change lower the temp in the tank a few degrees. i tried this myself and got results last night
sorry for the crappy pics but my camera sucks

That is what I was going to say. What he says is correct.

Put a flat rock in there too, plus what the guy I quoted in my other reply said.

Sooo cute! :D
But by the way, how do we tell the difference between a male and female oscar?

Only through venting will you be able to sex the O's. Unless you see the
female lay eggs of course.

Good luck on the spawn! Hope you get a nice batch :D
You are prepared for the fry right? You'll have many... :)
Keep us updated.

Venting is the best way but usually when they are full grown males will be larger and have a higher forehead. But this is not a 100%.
