Well my aquarium light was off and normally my oscar is a little on the shy side, but I was sitting by the cpu here on MFK and noticed he was swimming all around the aquarium! Happy day for me.

However, I turned the light on and noticed he was sort of pale in the face, and it goes back on the top of him all the way back to about the middle of his dorsal fin. I don't know what's going on. He's swimming around and is more active than he's been since I brought him home, but I've never seen him so white in the face. Is he just stressed? Should I check my chemicals?

Actually, while I was typing all of that, his face is black again... I'm still concerned though. Was it just that he was stressed? I'm kind of at a loss of words on this one.

well...mine does that all the time, its a change in mood, with mine, when he is ready for his food he changes and changes very quickly back and fourth

yah my 6 oscar are changing color all the time right before my eyes
and i have noticed when they are dark they are very complacent and when they are more light in color they are stressed
maybe tank mates or water conditions or most likely just a moody oscar
i wouldnt be to concerned though these fish are the toughest ive ever kept when it comes to just about everything including water conditions..
my oscars at 10" also developed bumps on theyre lips and i was worried about this and found out that it is only a maturity thing and is most likley the result of locking lips or moving gravel and also a sighn of maturity
also if you see tiny holes in the oscars head later in life it could be hole in the head or just port holes witch are not a big problem other than cosmetics
also another thing to look out for is lateral line disease....where the lateral line gets big holes aswell.....ive dealt with all these problems because people dump theyre big oscars in my lap all the time ...ive had dozens of these guys over the last 15 years of fish keeping
a varied diet for these guys and real clean watter will result in a excellent looking oscar(no feeder fish rumored to be the cause of hole in the head although nobody is sure really exactly what causes it)ive even heard carbon filtration causes it.........
anyhow if you already have read the information provided above in other threads or already new all of this then disregard all this writing and enjoy your fish
have agood one cheers

Alright, I feel a little more comfortable now. When he changed back to black I fed him a pellet and he's all happy now :P

Thanks for all the info goestonemoa, it'll help me throughout my whole time with the little guy, and thank you GTkeeper, saw yours first and reading it gave me a sign of relief :)
