I just noticed 2-3 days ago that one of my tiger Oscar skin is coming off. Is this normal? I just had my 240 gallon tank up and running for about 2 weeks. I did cycle it and added 1 fish every other day from my 55 gallon. My filtration system is not so good right now. I have 2 110 Marineland bio wheels setup along with 2 300 watt heaters. I have had this Oscar for about 3 months now. It's about 4-5in. He seems to be eating great and all I feed him is nfs and Hikari pellets. My other tiger Oscar is good but I actually don't see them being aggressive towards each other and my other fish are not even aggressive towards them. My other fish are 6 tinfoil barbs and 2 geos. Is it because he is going and fish tend to lose there skin? I do my regular 30% water changes every 3 weeks. On a side note I did a water test. My kh and Gh were perfect. My no²=0 and my no³=20. Seems to be good. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Great to hear yours got better. Hopefully mine will go away and it's nothing serious. Was my first cichlid I have owned over that fish.

.....I'm pretty sure by "gone" he was refering to the life of the fish. Not the ailment.

Haha yeah I misread was he was saying. So far it looks fine. I mean I don't see it affecting his eating habits. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for the input.

Is there anything for him to scrape on? I've seen them squeeze into some places and scrape a side really badly.

Not really. I do have some lava rocks that I built for them but it's really big. What I have been noticing is that he starting to move some of my small rocks with his mouth. It's kind of cool. How they move the rocks, is the Oscar doesn't look straight down. When I observe him he looks at it from one side of his eye. Either all the way to the right or left. Maybe he scraped his body looking at the rocks closely.

Here is a pic of what it looks like. Right where the top of the fin starts. Below it, you can see where it's came off.

It looks like a scrape to me. My Oscar would get them every few months before I found a sharp part on my driftwood. A pair of shears solved that.

As far as the eye issue is concerned though, Oscars have excellent eye sight. The size of their eyes and large distance they protrude from their head gives them a deceptively wide line of sight. Sort of like how a tiny security camera can see a full 180degrees with the right lenses.
