Hey guys, I’m hoping to get some help here. I want to increase the water flow in my oscars tank and I’m trying to find the best way to get additional flow. My tank is a 120 gallon, 48”x24”x24”. My filter is the fluval fx4 (700 gph flow rate) and now I’m looking to add some Powerheads. My main reason is to stir up any debris on the bottom while increasing water flow. I was thinking about getting the aqua clear 70 Powerhead, does anyone have any experience with this model? Would I be better off buying two smaller Powerheads to get the same flow so I can get more even flow through the tank? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It could work either with the 2 smaller powerheads or 1 larger powerhead. Just adjusting them aim towards the substrate will be key. Gravel vacuuming should still be done with routine maintenance.

Sounds like you could do with a bigger filter too, maybe a second FX4.

I have the same size tank with a Jebao RW-8 powerhead. Nice wide flow and rated at 2100gph, gets the water circulating nicely. I'm not sure if a tiny powerhead like a the AC 70 would make that much of a difference other than right in front of it. The RW-8's adjustable also, with night mode. So you can turn the power down if you want.

Ok I was worried about to much flow so it’s good to know that I can go that powerful. If I had a second fx4 do you think that would take out the need for Powerheads?

Ok thanks. I do vacuum gravel frequently. I’m actually buying the enheim electric one today

Personally would do away with any canisters and do a sump. You wouldn't have to worry about cleaning out waste. Also less nitrate better for any SA species prone to HITH.
