tiger oscars swimming strange HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would change 50 percent of the water after taking a sample to test. Report back with the test results. :) It could be a multitude of things, but testing the water is first.

No signs of any parasites, or bloating?

More than likely it's nothing. I did a water change a few days ago and my Oscar apparently pouted for like 4 days. I thought something happened during the water change, but out of nowhere he was fine again. They are known to out and be moody about change

When I first bought my oscar and put him in the pond he swam on his side for about 3 days....I thought I may have purchased one fresh off the short bus but now he acts normal. I bet its nothing but doesn't hurt to check water quality.

It usually had to do with swim bladder, it's VERY hard to treat. Treat with salt, 1 teaspoon per gallon, raised temperature and give lots of peas.

IME sometimes oscars just do this... in ANY other fish i'd be really worried (ok, my loaches do this all the time, but that's normal)... how is it doing now?

whenever Oscars are uncomfortable or pissed off or scared they lay down on the bottom of the tank and pout. my oscars eventually gave up, no one was paying attention to their tantrums and there was a big bad catfish that was perfectly willing to eat them if they sat still too long.
