Our oscars laid eggs and I thought it was so cool how the male hovered right above them watching them like the proud dad he was. I wouldn't suggest leaving them in with parents as they will eat them. I'd suck them out with a gravel vacuum and put them in their own tank with some small filtration, don't know how successful it will be but I've used the gravel vacuum to suck out my RBP babies and they are doing well.

Although that is common with guppies, cichlids tend to be good parents. When the parent hovers over the eggs, it really isn't a matter of pride. They need to fan the eggs to keep them well oxygenated. They will also guard the nest and attack any intruders.

Your best bet is to leave the eggs/fry in with the parents.

I agree with CHOMPERS totally

fish and especially cichlid are good learner maybe maybe they don't do it nice in 1st time but they will learn more how to care more about their fry
some ppl take some of the eg and put them alone in a separated tank
some leave nature do its rule and leave the eggs with the parent to take care until they reach a month then separate them
some wait until the fry do the free swimming & move them to anther tank
there some things i try not to do when my cichlid spawing
don't disturb the parent ever
don't change any rotten u do "light - food - temp. ...etc."
Do 25% water changes a week
use good quality food for the fry "as baby brine - Spirulina flakes baby food "
in the fry tank use a good filter - u can use a sponge filter in fry tank it's so useful
that's all
cong. & good luck and don't fforget to tell us all ur update
